Perdikis takes swipe at DISY, AKEL

Apparently buoyed by his party’s success in the legislative elections, Greens MP Giorgos Perdikis engaged in some light-hearted trolling on social media on Tuesday at the expense of DISY and AKEL.

In the early morning hours, Perdikis tweeted: “Hello, I’m back #averofcy #akel#cyprus.”

The “Hello, I’m back” part was in Greek.

The post, evidently alluding to his own re-election to parliament, was a clear dig at the two largest parties, which Perdikis felt had made him the target of their vitriol.

In Sunday’s elections, Perdikis himself garnered 4,426 votes, while his party Greens-Citizens Cooperation grabbed 16,909 votes or 4.81 per cent of the popular ballot, the highest in the party’s history, earning two seats in the House.

Meanwhile speaking to the Politis radio station, Perdikis revealed he would relinquish his seat in the House before his term is up, in 2021.

He aimed to leave parliament before completing 20 years, he added.

Perdikis was first elected to parliament with the Greens back in 2001 managing to keep his seat in the House ever since.

He revealed also that he would be standing down as party leader, but did not say when. The reason, he said, was that the party needed ‘new blood’.
