Men hold up bakery at gunpoint

Two men armed with a gun attempted to rob a bakery in Nicosia in the early morning hours on Thursday.

According to police, the hooded men entered the bakery at around 2.15am and at gunpoint demanded the two employees give them the money from the till.

The employees, however, moved towards them whereupon the would-be robbers reportedly fled. One ran away and the other one got on a moped parked near the bakery. When he was pushed by one of the employees who followed him the moped fell to the ground and the perpetrator got away on foot.

Preliminary investigations suggest the moped had been stolen between 6pm on Wednesday and 2.15am on Thursday from a parking place in Nicosia.
