Paphos rape case postponed

The Paphos criminal court postponed till Tuesday the hearing of a rape and robbery case brought against a man as his lawyer has requested to withdraw from defending him.
Defence lawyer Artemis Savvides told the court she could no longer fulfil her role due to disagreements over the handling of his line of defence
The 24-year-old from the Paphos area is accused of raping a 23-year-old Dutch national. The victim told police she was walking home at around 5.30am after a night out along Poseidonos Avenue on October 4 last year when a man rode up on a moped and offered her a lift back to her flat. According to the woman’s statement however, he took her to a remote area and forced her to have sex with him after which he also took her bag with her mobile phone and credit cards.
The accused was arrested and remanded following the woman’s complaint and after she was examined by a state pathologist and a forensic report sent to the police.
