Ten children were hospitalized after falling ill while at an education ministry camp at Prodromos, on the Troodos mountain, it emerged on Thursday.

Primary education director Elpidoforos Neocleous said vomiting was among the symptoms and health authorities were trying to determine whether the cause was food poisoning, gastroenteritis, or something else.

Reports said the first two children fell ill on Wednesday evening. One of the 15 teachers accompanying the 75 fifth graders also fell ill, reports said.

The rest of the children have already returned home, Neocleous said.

“The education ministry has informed the health services who are carrying out inspections at the camp,” Neocleous added.
