A fire that threatened the Stavrouni forest was brought under control within an hour on Sunday, the forestry department said in an announcement.
The blaze broke out around 4pm near Anglisides in the Larnaca district but with the help of seven fire trucks, it was brought under control by 5pm.
The forestry department said it had started in an area where some flammable materials had been dumped. “The fire directly threatened the forest,” it added.
How the fire started is being investigated.
