Divine poetry events

For all you poetry lovers, the Italian Embassy in Cyprus is organising two events under the name A Bridge of Poetry between Italy and Cyprus, in a Historical and Contemporary Key.

The first event will take place tonight at the Cultural Centre of the University of Cyprus at 8.30pm and will celebrate the 750th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri.

The night will feature readings of works by Dante and a number of great Greek poets by contemporary poets Michalis Pieris and Italian poet and art historian Antonella Anedda.

For those who want to know Dante a little better, Anedda will also present the lecture Dante: VIII Canto, The Exile (Purgatory). The Journey into the Divine Comedy doesn’t end there, there will also be readings from the poem translated into Greek and performed by members of the University of Cyprus Theatrical Workshops (THEPAK).

The night will end with music by soprano Eleonora Aleotti and maestro Jacopo Mosesso who will join forces to perform pieces of Italian medieval music.
Moving onto tomorrow, the poetry fun will be had at Kafenio 11 – behind Hammam – at 9pm when the mood will shift from historical to contemporary.

Anedda – who has published various books with major Italian publishers and whose work has been included in various Italian and foreign poetry anthologies – will read some of her own poetry. The event will be introduced by Professor Paola Minucci, professor of Greek language and literature at the University of Rome La Sapienza, and complemented by readings of poetries in Greek by members of THEPAK.

Just like tonight, the evening will end with music. Eleonora Aleotti will perform on the flute while Jacopo Mossesso will take to the cello.

To conclude the evening, a recital by Eleonora Aleotti (flute) and Jacopo Mosesso (cello). Aleotti and Mosesso are two young roman artists who created the duo Mondenkind in 2009.

They play musical instruments and sing together in the most diverse combinations, mostly in public and private venues in Rome. They have a common passion for Greek language and culture, and this will – most probably – be reflected in their performance.
