The fire service received more than 80 calls for help on Friday afternoon due to flooded premises and from motorists swept away by torrents on roads in the Dali, Latsia and Tseri in the Nicosia area.

The heavy rainfall in the afternoon caused several problems, the service said. Nine fire crews were out in affected areas but the number of calls were falling, it added at around 6pm.

Police also issued an announcement warning drivers of heavy rainfall and flooded streets, mainly in the Latsia and Tseri industrial areas, and urged motorists to be careful.
