A rounded art affair

Two exhibitions will start on Wednesday, in Nicosia and Limassol. The first is a solo watercolour exhibition by Aristotle Demetriou at Gallery K and the second a group exhibition at the Londa hotel in Limassol.

Demetriou is a “master of the contemporary Cyprus landscape. His work is unique. It is both a highly contemporary vision and timeless as well,” according to artist Glyn Hughes.

This mastery comes into focus with the artist’s use of bold, broad brushstrokes and bright patches of colour, which he uses to create landscapes and maritime watercolours.

The artist, from Paphos, is considered to be one of the top watercolour painters in Cyprus depicting the vivid landscape of the island. His use of yellow, green and blue bring to life the Mediterranean Sea, sandy tides and soaring mountain tops to make the viewer feel as if they are at the spot on the canvas.

These images begin to take form when Demetriou gets his sketch pad and goes outside. Then from sketch to canvas, he captures the effect of the fleeting light on the woods, the hills and the sea to recreate the scene with bright and atmospheric shapes and forms.

Demetriou studied at the School of Fine Arts of Athens University under renowned Greek painters Panagiotis Tetsis and Demetris Mytaras. He has exhibited in Cyprus, Greece, London and Rome. In 2016 he participated at the International Watercolour Biennial in Slovenia.

This, his 14th solo exhibition, will be inaugurated by Dr Christos Patsalides, Chairman of the European Capital of Culture and Pafos 2017 Organisation.

The Collection Gallery is organising the group exhibition at the Londa Hotel in Limassol, which will feature original works of Greek, Cypriot and other artists.

The exhibition will include contemporary and unique works of masters and well-established artists such as Mytaras, Fassianos, Angelos, Tsoclis, Tsarouchis, Ghikas, Pantaleon, Stathopoulos, Sperantzas, Kashalos, Spyropoulos, Sorogas, Alexander Vassiliev and many others.

The art on show will also be available for purchase at affordable prices. The authenticity of these works is guaranteed by the Collection Gallery.

Since June 2015, The Collection Gallery has been offering meaningful experiences with contemporary visual arts and affiliated art forms, and continues to do so with this upcoming exhibition.
