The labour inspection department on Wednesday issued a dust warning.
It said that as of 10am the average hourly concentrations of respirable particulate matter with a diameter less than 10 microns (PM10) in the atmosphere increased to between 38 mg / m3 and 107 mg / m3. (Micrograms per cubic metre) and therefore it was expected that the average value over a 24-hour period would exceed the limit of 50 mg / m3.
The average for Tuesday ranged between 14 and 33 mg / m3 depending on the region it said.
Due to the small size of respirable particulate matter and its potential negative impact on human health, the public and particularly vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and patients) are advised to avoid open spaces until the dust has cleared.
It also said employers should take appropriate measures and assess the risks to their staff working outdoors. It recommends that workers in outdoors use appropriate means of personal protection.
