One man is on a mission to fund the reforestation of Cyprus due to the devastating Solea fire and has launched a fundraiser on the Internet platform ‘Generosity’.
The fund, to which 25 people already contributed $733 in less than a day, has the ambitious target of collecting $1,000,000.
“The latest fires in the Troodos mountain forests in Cyprus have been another devastating destruction of the local ecosystem,” Panayiotis Charalambous who started the initiative said.
”The only way to revert the desertification process is to start a large scale reforestation programme.” Charalambous aims to maintain this programme by launching continuous reforestation actions in coordination with the local authorities and launching educational campaigns towards developing a reforestation culture.
According to their mission statement ‘Generosity’ is a community for showing and sharing compassion through socially conscious fundraising. Interested persons can set up an account, then share it with their contacts and provide feedback to donors. Donors pay via credit card.
