Man arrested for starting fire near Xandria

Police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of starting a fire near the Xandria to Kyperounda road.

The fire started at around 2pm and burned some 1.5 hectares of wild vegetation.

It was put out by firefighters of the Saittas station.

Police questioned the man who admitted to starting the fire while trying to cut a metal grille with an angle grinder.

The man was charged and will appear before court at a later date.
