A 58-year-old Polish tourist was found floating unconscious in the sea in the Paphos area on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The man, who was on holiday with his wife, was brought to shore swimmers with the help of a lifeguard from a nearby hotel who carried out first aid until the arrival of an ambulance.

The tourist was taken to Paphos General Hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
According to police investigations, the man had been swimming some 50 metres from the shore when he was caught up in strong currents.
