Part of Nicosia without electricity

Some residents in the capital Nicosia have been left without electricity due to a power outage in the Ayios Dhometios area until the electricity authority (EAC) finds a way connect the consumers to other power lines.

“They are currently trying to find out exactly where the problem is,” EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou said at noon, “but the important part is to connect the people who don’t have electricity as soon as possible.”

On Monday night, there were also blackouts in Tseri, Aglantzia and Lakatamia due to damage caused to the supply network.

“The problem is due to the high demand,” Papadopoulou explained, “it often causes damage a few days after the temperatures are very high which is what is happening now after last week’s extremes.”

The authority doesn’t expect more cuts on Tuesday but doesn’t rule out more problems arising for the same reason.
