Man dies while swimming

A British man died on Monday while swimming in the Sea Caves area of Paphos.

According to police the 76 year-old, who had a history of heart problems, went for a swim with his wife but did not follow her out of the sea. A few minutes later she found him unconscious, floating in the water.

Other swimmers rushed to the sea and pulled him out, attempting unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.

He was rushed to Paphos general hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is expected to show whether his death was due to pathological causes or drowning.
