OMONIA and AEK Larnaca go into their respective Europa League first-round second-leg as strong favourites on Thursday night.
Both sides earned important victories in last week’s first leg which makes their presence in the draw for the next round more than likely.
Omonia earned a 1-0 away win in Armenia against FC Banants thanks to a debut goal from Englishman Matt Derbyshire. The side from the capital did not lose a home game in last season’s European campaign and will be looking to carry that form into their upcoming game to finish the job.
It will be John Carver’s first official match in front of his new supporters and will therefore be eager to give a good account of his managerial capabilities.
AEK earned a comprehensive 3-0 win at home against San Marino outfit Folgore thanks to an Ivan Trickovski brace and a goal from Andre Alves.
Imanol Idiakez’s men are overwhelming favourites to progress to the next stage, yet the Larnaca club are not taking any chances as a full strength side is expected to travel.
Omonia kick-off proceedings at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia at 7.30pm while AEK’s away game starts at 9.30pm Cyprus time.
