A 20-year-old man was arrested in Limassol on Monday after being stopped on a stolen moped without plates being ridden by another man, who managed to get away after injuring a policeman.
Police say the two, who were not wearing helmets, were spotted by officers in a patrol car who signalled to them to pull over, something the rider of the bike refused to do, instead attempting to speed off.
At some point the moped pulled over and the two tried to flee on foot. The passenger was caught but the rider got away after shoving the bike onto a policeman, who had to be taken to Limassol hospital to treat injuries to his foot and the back of his neck.
Further investigation revealed that the scooter had been reported stolen the day before. Police found the detained man also had a pending arrest warrant in connection with a case involving conspiracy to commit a felony and car theft, offense committed between July 18 and 19 in Limassol.
A search of the 20-year-old’s house came up with another moped without registration or distinguishing markings which was confiscated for further tests.
