Cyprus leaders will begin discussions on the issues of property, security and guarantees in the context of the UN-sponsored talks for a Cyprus, settlement on Friday, the last of the intensified phase of July.
Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides described the meeting as “particularly important,”
“This will be a first in-depth exchange of views by both leaders on the three issues, adding “this will be the start of a difficult discussion,” he said.
Anastasiades also described the meeting as very important.
Speaking at a reception to honour overseas Cypriots, the President made clear that today`s meeting is not the final stage rather the beginning of an exchange of views “in order to see how each side addresses issues such as territorial adjustment and the issues of security and guarantees”.
Furthermore, the two leaders are expected to set the dates for the next meetings in the context of the UN-sponsored talks which will begin in the last week of August and will continue until the President of the Republic departs for the UN General Assembly.
