Elderly man in serious condition after he was hit by his car

A 76-year-old man was in serious condition on Thursday after he was hit by his own car, which he had just parked at his holiday home in the Morphou district.

According to the police, the accident occurred at around 9.10pm, when the 76-year-old and his wife, also 76, had arrived at their house.

After the two got out of the vehicle, it reportedly rolled backwards running over the woman’s foot and hitting the man, who was forced into a concrete wall before falling on the ground.

Police said it appeared that the man had forgotten to engage the car’s hand-break after he parked.

The couple was rushed to the Nicosia general hospital.

The man was diagnosed with multiple fractures to the chest and sides of his body, while his wife was treated for minor injuries and then discharged.
