Tourists report theft, beating

A tourist couple reported to police that while camping in the Aphrodite Hills area in Paphos, they were assaulted and robbed by three men who posed as police officers.

According to the report, the three men woke the couple, both aged 25, at around 2am Friday, asking to search their tent.

They then told the man they also had to search his rental car, which was parked some 50 metres from the tent.

Two of the suspects followed the man while one stayed behind with the woman. At some point he allegedly assaulted the woman, hitting her in the head with a stick before all three of them fled the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital where doctors sutured her wound and kept her for observation.

The tourist told police that they men stole his wallet, containing €200 in cash and four credit cards.

The individual who hit the woman was described as being around 1.80m tall, chubby with a beard. He was around 35-years-old. The other two were around 25, 1.70m tall, slim with short hair.

Paphos CID is investigating.
