‘Poisonous tomatoes’ from Greece

Turkey re-exported ten tonnes of “poisonous tomatoes” from Greece to the north, the Turkish Cypriot press reported on Monday.

Kibris newspaper said that after the necessary controls in the north it was found that the tomatoes exceeded the permitted levels of pesticide.

The case was confirmed by the ‘director of the agriculture department’, Akif Unsal, who, in statements to the media said that “poisonous tomatoes were imported to the TRNC from Greece via Turkey and were all removed from the market and are being destroyed”.
