Man beaten, mugged in park

A 50-year-old man was hospitalized with multiple abrasions and bruises suffered when he was beaten and mugged in a park in Nicosia early on Saturday morning.

Police were notified about the incident at around 2.20am. The man said that he was in a park near Stasinou Avenue when he was accosted by four individuals who asked for his money.

When the 50-year-old refused to give up his cash, one of the men pulled out a pocketknife without however, unfolding the blade.

He told police he started calling for help, prompting the four men to throw him on the ground and start kicking him.

He eventually handed over €35 and the perpetrators left the scene.

The man was taken to hospital where he was admitted with multiple abrasions and bruises to various parts of his body.
