A fire in Limassol the early morning hours of Saturday caused damage to a cafeteria belonging to the technical university Tepak.

The fire service scrambled to the scene on Athinon Street at around 2.30am and managed to put the blaze under control 15 minutes later.

The fire damaged an awning and plastic chairs and it also affected the girders of the metal structure used as a cafeteria.

Authorities have not ruled out foul play.

On Friday, fire fighters aided by four water-dropping helicopters fought a blaze near the village of Ayios Therapon in Limassol.

The fire broke out in an area with pine trees and wild shrub.

Around 15 fire fighting vehicles, two helicopters and two small aircraft took part in the effort to put out the blaze, which burned around 12 hectares.
