Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides departs on Monday for Bratislava, Slovakia to attend the two-day EU informal Defence Ministers Council.
The EU Defence Ministers will be briefed by Federica Mogheniri, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the implementation of the defence aspects of the EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy.
“The discussions is particularly important as it takes place in a crucial period where terrorism, illegal trafficking in persons, organised crime, internal instability in the Europe`s wider region and other unconventional threats necessitate joint action from EU member-states in close collaboration with other international actors,” an official press release said.
The ministers are also set to hold talks on cooperation between the European Union and NATO in the presence of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. The ministers will also discuss about missions and operations of the Common Security and Defence Policy, particularly with respect to Libya and the Sahel region over a working lunch.
