Shooting incident near University of Illinois, stabbings in Boston (Update)

One person was killed and five were injured after two shootings occurred near the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus early Sunday morning, media reports said.

Four victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting broke out during an apartment party just after 12.30am, according to Champaign police, the Daily Mail reported.

One man died from his injuries just after 1am in a nearby hospital, it said.

The other three victims’ injuries were not life threatening. The shooting was believed to be related to an altercation inside an apartment that spilled onto the street. The five injured were not part of the incident however.

In Illinois an alert sent out by police on Sunday morning urged locals to stay away from the area.

Meanwhile in Boston seven people were reported to have been stabbed in the theatre district. One was critical. Police did not have any suspects in custody for the stabbings.
