North rejects Rizokarpaso teachers

The high school in Rizokarpaso

The education ministry is in the process of appointing three new teachers to the Rizokarpaso high school in the north after the Turkish Cypriots rejected the three originally selected, Education Minister Costas Kadis said on Wednesday.

Kadis said that his ministry had chosen three teachers for the Rizokarpaso high school but that the Turkish Cypriots had not approved them.

The three teachers were rejected, he said, for a number of reasons and “we do not always know whether they are accurate”.

“Their rejection concerns political issues and cite either references made by these teachers on social media, or information as to their political affiliation,” Kadis said.

The education ministry sent the names of three new teachers and is expecting their approval by the Turkish Cypriots.

At the moment, he said, the other teachers at the high school are covering existing needs.
