Police with help from Larnaca residents on Wednesday arrested two women suspected of stealing from customers in a series of shops after earlier CCTV footage of the women was made public.
People who recognised the 40- and 23-year-olds in a shop called police who went directly to the premsies they were spotted in, arresting and detaining them.
The women are believed to be responsible for at least three cases of bags and wallets stolen from customers in Larnaca shops.
On Tuesday, a Ukrainian tourist had her bag containing cash and a number of items stolen from a fitting room by two women as she shopped for clothes in Larnaca.
The woman said her passport, the sum of €1,250 in €50 notes, as well as two mobile phones, one of which is valued as €250 were taken, along with another €40 in various banknotes.
Investigators who visited the shop in question, after checking the CCTV installed in the premises, ascertained the culprits were a couple of women who were described as thin and wearing dark sunglasses at the time the offence was carried out.
The arrests show that timely publication of their pictures from the CCTV installed in the shop, bore fruit.
Larnaca CID are continuing investigations.
