Teacher gets suspended jail sentence for sexual exploitation of child

A 33-year-old high-school teacher was given a suspended two-and-a-half years in Paphos after he was found guilty of sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography.

The 33-year-old public school educator had pleaded guilty to 13 charges. The Paphos Criminal Court suspended the sentence for three years.

It also ordered the defendant to be monitored for three years by the convict supervision authority. He was also banned from working in areas where children were present.

The incident in question took place in December 2014. The defendant used a social media platform to chat to a pupil of his and send him messages of sexual content.

The trial was held behind closed doors to protect the identity of the victim.
