From alpha to omega

If you are tired of the phrase ‘it’s all Greek to me’ you might be interested in a 24-week Greek language course for beginners that will start getting your Greek tongue untied as of Wednesday.

The lessons, which will run at the Simio Afetirias – which translates into ‘Starting Point’ – in Nicosia every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6.30pm until 8pm, will be conversational classes.

The classes are put together according to the needs of the students, and the teachers aim to give participants all the tools needed to be able to speak and communicate in society. During class, a number of activities will be carried out with this in mind.

“Students do not necessarily have to speak English to be able to follow the lesson. The main language used is Greek but other languages and means of communication will be used to ensure that the scheduled knowledge of the language is learned,” one of the institute’s language teachers, Kyriaki Christodoulou, said.

The proposed days and times of the course could be rescheduled if the ones set out do not suit the students, and an arrangement can be made.
