Anastasiades in Israel for Peres funeral

President Nicos Anastasiades was in Israel on Friday to attend the funeral of Shimon Peres.

The former Israeli prime minister and president died on Wednesday at the age of 93, two weeks after suffering a stroke.

Anastasiades, who is being accompanied by deputy government spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos, returns home later Friday.

Peres jointly won a Nobel Prize for his peace efforts with the Palestinians in the 1990s.

A great number of foreign leaders are attending the funeral, among them US President Barack Obama, former US President Bill Clinton, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prince Charles.
