Dust level warning

The public, and especially vulnerable groups, have been urged to avoid going outdoors in Nicosia because of increased dust levels in the atmosphere, the labour inspection department warned on Monday.

The average hourly concentration of dust particles in the atmosphere at 3.30pm in Nicosia was 137.2 μg/m3 (microgrammes per cubic metre), exceeding the limit value of 50 μg/m3 which is set under the relevant legislation.

“Due to the small size of particles and the possible negative effects on human health, members of the public, particularly vulnerable population groups – children, the elderly and the sick – are advised to avoid spending time outside,” the department said.
