Diko to back Yiorkadjis, Christou for mayors

Opposition Diko has announced some of its candidates for the municipal elections in December.

Current Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis is the party’s candidate for the capital’s post.

The rest of candidates for the Nicosia district are: Christos Tsingis for Strovolos municipality, Costas Kortas in Aglandjia, Neophytos Papalazarou for Yeri, Kyriacos Parpounas for Latsia and Yiannis Pierides in Lakatamia.

For the municipalities of Engomi, Dali and Tseri, consultations are still underway, the party said.

Diko is also backing Limassol mayor Andreas Christou, who is running for a third term. Pavlos Pavlou is the party’s Yermasogeia candidate.

In the Famagusta district, the party announced that it would support Adamos Kaikkis as its candidate for the Sotira municipality. Candidates have not been chosen yet for the Dherynia, Paralimni and Ayia Napa municipalities.

Its candidates so far for the Larnaca district are Christoforos Koumbaros for Dromolaxia-Meneou, and Marios Armenis in Livadia.

Party members have yet to choose their champions for Larnaca, Aradippou, Athienou and Lefkara municipalities.

Akis Chrysomilos will be Diko’s Paphos mayor candidate.

As regards the posts of mayors of the occupied municipalities, Rita Elisseou Komodiki will be the party’s Kyrenia candidate, Charalambos Pittas for the Morphou municipality, Neoptolemos Kotsapas for Lapithos and Nicos Hadjistefanou for Karavas.

The party said that all tickets will be presented before the central committee on October 15 for approval.
