A group of specialist orthopaedic doctors from the Shriners Hospital for Children of Springfield, Massachusetts will be in Cyprus this month to examine children with severe orthopaedic and spine conditions.
During their stay, the doctors will examine some 500 children at the Nicosia general hospital free of charge. Appointments begin on Monday October 10 and will continue until Thursday October 13.
The group of doctors, headed by Dr David Drvaric, visits the island once a year as part of an agreement signed between their hospital and the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation.
Children from Cyprus who need further therapy will be sent to the Thelma Paraskevaides foundation in the Shriners hospital.
To date, around 3,100 children have been sent to Springfield for surgeries. The costs of operations and treatment are covered by the Shriners Hospital.
The George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation began its collaboration with the Shriners Hospitals in 1983, and since then children from Cyprus have benefitted from successful surgeries of the spine, extremities and for removals of giant nevi form their bodies.
