Music made for Gods

The only existing pipe organ on the island will come back to life on Saturday during a concert by internationally renowned organist Daniele Dori.

The concert, which will take place at the Church of Saint Mary of the Graces in Larnaca, will feature works from five centuries of Italian organ music, including pieces by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Antonio Vivaldi, Giovanni Morandi and Lorenzo Perosi.

Dori, who is the first organist of the Cathedral of Florence, will bring to our ear the particular sound of the Larnaca organ, which was built by the Franciscan friar Delfin Taboada in 1989.

The event, sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus, is part of the International Organ Festival programme, and is organised by the Custody of the Holy Land, that started on September 25, with a Prelude at the Terra Sancta Monastery of Emmaus El-Qubeibeh, near Jerusalem. It is expected to end in Damascus in March 2017, after concerts in Rhodes, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and Lebanon, involving organists and musicians from several European and Middle East Countries.
