The Italian language gets creative

If you are a marketer, or if you just love the creativity behind advertising and are interested in how language can inspire such creativity then The Creative Use of Italian in Trademarks, Advertising Slogans and Shop Signs lecture set for Thursday in Nicosia is for you.

The conference, which will be led by Professor Joseph Brincat, is run within the framework of the 16th week of the Italian Language, which this year revolves around the topic of Italian Language and Creativity.

In his talk, Brincat will try to show us a few tricks of the trade, and distinguish between the various linguistic stratagems that marketing managers resort to. These are rhetorical devices such as hyperbole and euphemisms as well as wordplay.

He will mainly deal with shop signs and slogans created in Italy, but also explain how the slogans of international brands are translated, modified or rewritten in the Italian language. The presentation will also include references to Switzerland, where Italian is one of the official languages and is widely spoken.
