Man remanded for cannabis possession

A 23-year-old Famagusta man was remanded in custody for four days on Saturday in connection with possession of around 57 grammes of cannabis.

The suspect, from the village of Liopetri, was arrested after drug squad officers found the drugs during a search of his home.

Police said the man was found outside the house smoking a joint containing half a gramme of cannabis.

A search of the house yielded an additional 57.5 grammes and a precision scale with traces of cannabis.

Two other men, 25 and 35, who had been present during the search were also arrested.

Officers found a half-smoked joint in the 25-year-old’s possession and one in the other 35-year-old’s  car.

They were charged and released to face court at a later date.
