Pensioner killed crossing the road in Peyia

A pensioner was killed late Saturday while crossing a road in Peyia.

Charalambous Koudounos, 86, from Tsada was hit on Michalis Kyprianou Avenue by a car driven by a 25-year-old from Paphos at around 8pm.

According to police the driver had managed to brake but the pensioner fell as the vehicle came to a halt, hitting him but not at speed.

Koudounos sustained serious head when he fell and hit his head on to the road. He was taken to Paphos general hospital but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police carried out a breathalyser test on the driver but it came up negative. Also the driver had not been speeding, they established.
