We’ll be Russian to hear this music

Tonight the Russian Cultural Centre in Nicosia will host a free concert with works by Bach, Kasado and Schumann, performed by award-winning violoncello player Rustem Khamidullin and pianist German Kitkin.

The 27-year-old winner of the 2014 Russian National Music Competition in Moscow, Kahmidullin studied at the Gnessin Academy of Music and in 2008 entered the Basel University School of Music. In 2009 he won second prize in the first Semyon Kozolupov Cello Competition in Moscow.

Always ready to learn more about his music and entertain audiences, Kahmidullin interned with the Basel Symphony Orchestra during the 2009-2010 season. In January 2015, he became an intern with the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Accompanying Kahmidullin will be Kitkin on the piano. The 22-year-old pianist graduated from the Moscow Chopin Stage College of Musical Arts in 2013.

He has won a number of awards, including the 2013 International Neuhaus Contest – Festival for young pianists in Moscow.
