The spirit of Cyprus

Winter is coming and – as it is only polite to go with tradition – we should all stock up on local zivania to warm us right up.

Before things get too cold for us to venture out to the mountains, however, the Troodos Tourism Board has arranged two Sundays full of adventure and tradition during this year’s zivania festival.

This Sunday the festival will take us to the village of Alona and next Sunday the ‘spirit of Cyprus’ will take us to Pelendri.

At both picturesque villages, there will be free zivania tasting, as well as the chance to taste other local delicacies. We will also get the chance to see the distillation process of zivania, the preparation process of palouze, as well as free tasting, and tradition will be shaken up a bit with some zivania cocktails.

As if that wasn’t entertainment enough, there will also be folk music and dancing, theatrical performances, a children’s corner with lots of activities for the little ones, traditional products for sale and the chance to visit local churches and walk through the picturesque alleys of the villages.

Transportation to both villages from Nicosia and Limassol will be provided by the Troodos Tourism Board. This Sunday the buses will leave from the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Nicosia at 10am and from the CTO Information Office in Germasogeia, Limassol at 9.30am. Buses will be available to take you back from Alona at 3pm.

Next Sunday, November 13, buses will depart from the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Nicosia at 11am and from the CTO Information Office in Germasogeia, Limassol at 11.30am. Buses will leave Pelendri at 4pm.

Bus fare is €5 and in order to reserve your seat call 22-674264 for Nicosia buses and 25-323211 for buses departing from Limassol.
