Police officer injured after fan fighting

A riot police officer was wounded when rival football fans clashed at a match in Limassol on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after the end of the football match between Apollona and Ethnikos Achna at Limassol’s Tsirio Stadium a group of around 30 Apollona fans gathered outside the dressing rooms next to the football field and started throwing stones.

Riot police intervened, dispersing the crowd with the aid of tear gas. During the skirmish one of the police officers was injured when a stone was thrown at his head.

He was taken to Limassol General Hospital where he received first aid and was released.

Upon leaving the scene the fans set fire to a plastic garbage bin.
