Nigerians admit to smuggling cocaine

Three Nigerian men who admitted in Larnaca court on Tuesday to importing over ten kilos of cocaine earlier this year had their hearing for the presentation of facts and sentencing set for November 17.

State prosecutor Thanasis Papanicolaou charged the three with importing and possessing with intent to supply 10,383 grammes of the drug, to which they all pleaded guilty.

At around midnight on May 8 drug squad officers in cooperation with customs stopped and searched the trio on their arrival at Larnaca airport from Dubai.

A search of the men, who came to Cyprus as students, revealed they were all in possession of a large number of little egg-shaped packets of cocaine, made to look like chocolates, in nylon duty free bags. One of the men also had the drug sewn into his jacket.

The court ordered all three remain in custody at the central prisons until their next appearance.
