Police detain two men over stolen passports

Police early Tuesday arrested two men at Larnaca airport on suspicion of possession of stolen passports.

Authorities said the pair were arrested at 2.45am when they tried to check-in for departure.

“During a check at passport control, suspicions arose regarding the authenticity of their passports, as the biometric data appeared to have been tampered with,” police said.

“On further investigation, the two foreign nationals appear to have arrived in Cyprus through the occupied areas.”

One of the passports had been reported to the French authorities as stolen.
