Anastasiades conveys condolences for former Greek president

President Nicos Anastasiades has issued a written statement conveying his condolences over the passing away of former Greek president Kostis Stephanopoulos and commending him for his exemplary service.

“It was with sorrow that I was informed of the passing away of former President of the Republic of Greece Kostis Stephanopoulos, a man who set the example for serving public interest in a consistent and dignified manner,” President Anastasiades notes.

He also described Stephanopoulos as a patriot and an example of honesty and integrity.

Anastasiades further conveyed his “deep condolences to his family and the Greek people.”

Stephanopoulos who passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday evening in a hospital in Athens after suffering complications brought upon by pneumonia, had served as President of the Republic of Greece for two terms from March 1995 to March 2005.
