US Vice President Joe Biden has encouraged the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, to continue negotiations for a Cyprus settlement.

A White House spokesperson said in a written statement that Biden spoke on the phone with President Anastasiades and Akinci and “encouraged the leaders to continue negotiations and expressed his confidence in the leaders’ ability to secure a settlement that would reunify Cyprus as a bizonal, bicommunal federation to the benefit of all Cypriots”.
