Limassol police holding three youths, seek fourth following stoning

Limassol police are still looking for a teenager after arresting two youths on Wednesday in connection with stoning a police car which arrived outside a bakery following reports of a disturbance.

“Two 16-year-olds were arrested on a judicial warrant and detained in connection with causing a disturbance, common assault, making threats and swearing in public,” a statement said.

Police earlier arrested another similarly aged boy, while a fourth is being sought in connection with an incident in the early hours of Monday morning in which a group of youths appear to have gathered outside a bakery in the Turkish Cypriot sector of Limassol, creating a disturbance.

The group appear to have threatened a security guard working outside the premises, who tried to get them to leave. When police arrived at the scene, the boys reacted by throwing stones at the patrol car, managing to also hit another one, before leaving the scene while swearing at the officers.

A four-day remand was issued against the first youngster arrested, who is a student, while the judicial warrants against the latest to be arrested were secured following testimony obtained following his detention.
