A 30-year-old man was arrested for outstanding traffic violations during an investigation into attempted robbery of a kiosk in Pervolia, Larnaca, police said on Monday.

According to a police report, at around 2:30am Monday, Kiti police was informed that the kiosk had been burgled.

Investigators rushed to the scene but found no leads.

However, while there, they noticed a passing truck that was similar to one they had seen moments earlier in CCTV footage, from an adjacent betting parlour, of the time the attempted robbery was reported.

They pulled over the driver, a 30-year-old man from Tsiakkillero, Larnaca, who appears to have been a person of interest to police on multiple occasions.

A subsequent check found that he had several outstanding tickets for traffic violations.

With him in the truck was his uncle, against whom nothing was found, and he was released.

Further police investigation revealed that nothing had been taken from the kiosk, because the alarm went off after the break-in and the would-be robbers fled.

The 30-year-old was arrested for breaking and entering, as well as the traffic violations.

The Kiti police station continues to investigate the case.
