A jam-packed weekend

One thing is for sure, this weekend will be anything but boring. There is lots to do for the whole family, lots of places to visit and lots to be seen.

Firstly, let’s stop off at Ikea where the Christmas spirit has been wide awake for some time. As of this weekend, and every weekend until January 5, there will be workshops for the kids involving making a star for the Christmas tree and snowmen, face painting, and almost any activity you can think of that will make us feel like children again.

Tomorrow the kids and adults will be entertained by a clown from 12pm until 2pm and on Sunday you can get to make your own Christmas card. There will be colouring sheets for the kids to use in their creations, and lots and lots of inspiration everywhere.

A whole list of what is in store, in the store, can be found at

After, or before, visiting Ikea, why not pop next door to the Mall of Cyprus where the Karaiskakio foundation will have its Christmas bazaar from 11am until 7pm. As with every year, the foundation will be selling a very special bracelet for €15. Each year the design of the bracelet changes, this year it is a DNA symbol. There will also be gingerbread houses and Christmas sweets for sale, and from 12.15pm until 1pm, the Latsia Children’s choir will sing Christmas carols.

The kids can practice their creative skills from 2pm until 4pm when they will be able to make their very own Christmas decorations.

Also in Nicosia, there will be a Christmas bazaar at the Bank of Cyprus’ Sporting Club from 10am until 4.30pm, organised by the charity organisation Alkionides.

There will be Christmas cakes and sweets to be bought, Christmas decorations and gift ideas for you to take home. There will also be a children’s choir, games for the kids and a raffle with lots of fun prizes.

The event also offers a buffet lunch with homemade food and Christmas desserts. The price for the buffet is €10 for adults and €7 for children under 12.

As in previous years, all proceeds from the bazaar will go towards helping needy families have a good Christmas.

At the Goethe Institut there will be a very festive German feel to Christmas with the German Christmas Fayre running from 3pm until 8pm.

Traditional Christmas treats like Lebkuchen and Stollen brought directly from Germany will be available at the event, as well as German sausages, tasty waffles, soups, the well-known Gluhwein (mulled wine), and different kinds of German beer. You will also find a huge variety of special, handmade gifts and traditional German Christmas ornaments to decorate your homes.

But eating and buying is not all that is on the menu, music will also be provided by the Windcraft Band and other musical acts.

This annual fayre supports the Ayios Dometios Multifunctional Foundation and the School of the Blind.

In Paphos Technopolis 20 Cultural Centre will be doing its part to join in the festive mood with its third Christmas art market. There will be handmade creations, ranging from jewellery, Christmas ornaments, candies, bags, books, scarves and much more.

If you would much rather prefer something hand-made by your child, then the cultural centre is also offering a children’s workshop on the same day at 11am, where children will make and take home their own creations. Artist Chara Papadopoulou will be leading the workshop. Participation costs €6.

And the bazaar craze will also be very much alive in Larnaca, where you will be able to get your hands on a variety of handmade and vintage items at Apothiki 79 from 11am all the way through to 7pm, on both Saturday and Sunday.
