Woman fighting for life after she was hit by car (updated)

A young Bulgarian woman is fighting for her life after suffering severe injuries when she was hit by a car while crossing a road in Larnaca on Tuesday, police said.

The accident happened on Artemis Avenue at 8am. The 24-year-old woman  is a premanent resident.

“A car being driven by a 48-year-old woman, under circumstances that are being investigated by the police, hit and injured the 24-year-old who was crossing the road on foot,” police said.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Larnaca hospital and her condition is described critical.

A breathalyser test carried out on the driver came back with a zero reading.

Eyewitnesses told police that the woman was using a pelican crossing whose lights appeared to be out of order. The 24-year-old ended up on the traffic island in the middle of the road.

Witnesses also said the car which hit the woman was forced into the oncoming lane as another vehicle was parked in the left lane.
