The takings of a Limassol greengrocer have been stolen from an employee as he left the shop, police said on Friday.
“According to the complaint made to the police, at about 9pm yesterday (Thursday), as a 40-year-old, who was carrying a bag with the day’s takings, was making his way towards his car outside the greengrocer where he works, he saw a car stop in front of him.”
Police say, that according to the man, the car contained four people, who had their faces covered with hoods.
“The front passenger exited the car holding a large piece of wood, and moved menacingly towards the 40-year-old, shouting at him to hand over the bag with the money,” police said.
“The man dropped the bag to the ground and ran towards a colleague who was in the 40-year-old’s car nearby. The perpetrators, having taken the bag with the money, fled the scene at breakneck speed.”
Unconfirmed reports say more than 3000 euros were stolen.
Investigating officers from Episkopi police station, who came to the scene shortly afterwards, conducted examinations and collected evidence.
Inquiries are continuing.
