Robber caught on the job jailed for 15 months

A man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for attempting to steal some electrical appliances, clothes and various alcoholic drinks from a Paphos residence.

The 42-year-old Polish national had being caught in the act of trying to rob the house at around 7.45pm on November 20.

He had been spotted by a resident in the garden of his cousin’s house. Knowing that the owner of the house was abroad, the resident approached the man and asked him what he was doing. Dissatisfied with the 42-year-old’s response, he called the police.

The man fled the scene, leaving a large suitcase behind.

Later members of the police force spotted the suspect who appeared to be drunk and refused to answer questions. He was subsequently arrested.

After returning to the house police found various items in the suitcase that the man had apparently taken from the house.

They also found a TV outside the residence which they seized as evidence. A door had signs of forced entry.

While he was in custody the perpetrator pleaded guilty.
