Take a journey to Smyrne

After already giving two performance at Antonakis Music Hall in Nicosia, the local band Trio Levante will give its final show at the hall on Thursday night.

Trio Levante was formed in November 2014 and is comprised of Petros Kouloumis on vocals and the lute, Pavlos Michaelides on the vocals and the violin, and Pantelis Ionas on vocals, banjo, guitar and oud.

All three musicians are devoted to smyrneiko and Greek pre-war rembetiko. This love of the genre gives them the push they need to further explore the music and bring that old-school kind of musical feel to the audience of today.

The trio has performed in a number of concerts paying tribute to musicians they admire and who have inspired them to take music on as much more than a hobby. They have performed as a tribute to Smyrna composer Panayiotis Tountas, violinists and composers Dimitris Semsis and Ioannis Dragatsis who were also from Smyrna.

Kouloumis, Michaelides and Ionas hope to use the simplicity of the musical instruments to convey an authentic and expressive performance every time they take to the stage.

The trio will also be joined by guitarist Demetris Mystakidis on Thursday, to help them take us on our way to a musical journey to Smyrne.
